Before taking an online exam that requires Respondus LockDown Browser, you must install the LockDown Browser application.

  1. Go to our University’s Respondus LockDown Browser download page.
  2. Review the steps on the page and then click the link for “Go to the Respondus LockDown Browser download page.”
    Respondus LockDown Browser Respondus LockDown Browser provides a secure environment for online testing by preventing students from printing, copying, clicking links, and opening other applications during the testing period. Before taking an online exam that requires Respondus LockDown Browser, you must install the LockDown Browser application. If you installed the LockDown Browser at another institution, uninstall that version before following the instructions below. Go to the Respondus LockDown Browser download page. Select Windows or Mac. Follow the download page instructions to choose the correct application. Download the installer. Double-click to open the installer file. If you are prompted to run a Java application, click Yes. Follow the prompts to complete the installation. The application will be located in the Start menu (Windows), the Applications folder (Mac), or on your desktop as a shortcut. This software is installed on laptops available for checkout in the Student Technology Center and on computers in Tech Spot Labs on campus.
  3. Click the Download button.

  4. Locate the file in your downloads and launch the installer.
    Items downloaded can be found in the your browser's Downloads, usually in the top right corner. For Firefox, this will be the icon with the tool-tip "Display the progress of ongoing downloads" and is usually the 4th icon from the right after downloading.
    Note: This varies by browser. The example above is in Firefox.
  5. If you are prompted to run a Java application, click the Yes button.
  6. If you are prompted with a Symantec warning, click the Allow this File button and then click the OK button.
  7. Select your language and then click the Next button.

  8. Select I accept the terms… and click the Next button.
    Select I Accept to the... and then select Next.
  9. Click the Finish button.
    Select Finish.

The application will be located in the Start menu (Windows), the Applications folder (Mac) or on your desktop as a shortcut.

You can use one of our Respondus Self-Enroll courses to test your equipment.

To Self-Enroll in one of these courses, click on Courses in your left-hand panel and then click Course Catalog in the top right:

Click Course Catalog

Search for Respondus and click Go.  You will see a list of courses to choose from.  You can test Respondus in either an Ultra Course or an Original Course.  Click the small drop-down next to the course name and click Enroll:

On the subsequent pages click Submit then Ok.

The Self-Enroll Respondus Testing course will open automatically but will also appear in your course list.  You can use these classes to test Respondus as many times as you need!
