Sometimes a clicker will behave erratically. It will not light green as it should when an answer is submitted or the screen does not display properly when you attempt to answer. The key to the flashes and colors is shown here.

Understanding your Clicker Lights

When you press a key on your clicker it will flash an LED in response. Use the guide to determine what the lights mean.

  • Orange Light (red and yellow) followed by Green:  This means your clicker has sent your answer and was waiting for confirmation from the instructor’s device and then received it.
  • Orange Light (red and yellow) flashing seven times followed by Red: This means your response was not received, and you may be connected to the wrong channel. It could also mean that the poll you were participating in was no longer open or that your battery is low.
  • Green Light with No Points: Re-register your clicker and confirm the clicker’s  Device ID. Inform your instructor that you have re-registered.
  • No Light: Remove the plastic film from the back of the device.  Check the battery and try a factory reset.  Your clicker could be defective.
  • Short Green Light: This means your answer was successfully sent to the instructor’s device.  You should still ensure that you’re receiving points when your instructor posts scores.
  • Short Red Light: This means your answer was not sent to the instructor, which happens when you’re not on the right channel, or the instructor’s device is having issues.
  • Flashing Red and Green light: This means your device is in channel select mode.  If you’re trying to submit an answer, do not first press Channel. If you’re trying to change the channel, wait for all flashing to stop and then attempt to set the channel again.

Factory Reset or New Battery

If you have issues with your clicker, the green light does not flash when you answer a question or you cannot set a channel, performing a reset could resolve issues with your clicker.

  1. Open the battery compartment on the back of your clicker with a Phillips head screwdriver.
  2. Remove the battery. Wait 10 seconds and replace the battery.
  3. Replace the battery compartment cover.

Replace the Battery

If a factory reset doesn’t resolve the issue or your clicker does not respond at all, it may be necessary to purchase a new battery. Clicker batteries (CR2032 3V) are available at the University Bookstore.

Other signs that your batteries may need to be reset or replaced are as follows:

  • The clicker works inconsistently.
  • The clicker is unable to connect to a channel or does not remain on a channel once it is set.
  • You are the only student experiencing issues with your clicker.

To replace the battery follow the steps below:

  1. Open the battery compartment on the back of your clicker with a Phillips head screwdriver.
  2. Replace the old battery with the new one.
  3. Replace the battery compartment cover and screw.

If none of these suggestions fix the problem and the clicker is less than a year old, call 1.866.746.3015.  They will run you through a troubleshooting process, and if they find that it’s broken they will send you a return authorization to take to the store where you purchased it for an exchange.
