Whether you’re on Windows 10 or 11, there’s a built-in screen recording app that’s ready to use!

  • If you’re on Windows 11, you have the better option! The new Snip tool now does screen recording, and it’s extremely easy to use & allows full screen capture. Click here to view Microsoft’s quick guide on that.
  • If you’re on Windows 10, then your best built-in option is Xbox Game Bar. Unfortunately, it only allows you to select individual apps to record, so you can’t choose to record your entire screen. Click here to view Microsoft’s thorough guide, or read below for our quick-start guide!

Step 1: Get your screen ready

Open the screen or application you would like to record.

Step 2: Open the Xbox Game Bar using (the Windows key) Windows Key+ G

Pressing ⊞+G together will open the Game Bar menu.

You may be asked if you are recording a game. Just check the box next to “Yes, this is a game“.

You may also be asked to log in. You can use the same credentials you use to log into your computer, or other Windows account information (like an Outlook email address, or Xbox login).

Step 3: Press record button on the Game Bar, or use Windows Key+ Alt + R

Use the Camera to take a still screen shot.

Use the Red Circle to start recording your screen.

If you want to record your voice when doing a screen capture, make sure to check the Record Mic box.

Step 4: Retrieve Your Recordings

The default location for your video recordings should be: This PC > Videos > Captures

From here, you can upload your video to Kaltura to submit to your assignment!
